I discovered a long time ago that if you report something on Facebook,
the offensive item is hidden from you but not from anyone else. That is,
Facebook tries to give the impression that it has done something,
without actually doing something useful.

Perhaps Google does the same.

PS I haven't used Facebook for about a year, so it's always possible
that the leopard has changed its shorts.

They post a notice to that effect when you block something: That the
offensive item or person is blocked for you but not for anyone else.

Yes, if you report something on GG, it's hidden from you but no one else,
and that nice Mr. Pichai doesn't do anything about it. I suppose that in
a really extreme case Google might try to ban someone.

I know someone whose access to Facebook has been suspended for a few
days because something they posted supposedly violated the terms of service..
(Strangely enough, that person didn't think it was really a violation.)

Back 15 years ago, one usenet participant in the .stats. groups
had his second occasion of being cut off by his ISP for abusive
posting. He complained, as he explained why he was posting
from a new address. I don't know what got him banned. I think
he posted worse in either the diving group or the bridge players.
In ours, he only called people 'stupid' and 'liar' and did a bit of
doxxing.

Facebook has made announcements about thousands of Russian
intelligence accounts closed en-masse, so it depends on what the
offense is, and who is complaining about what.

I've seen posts about vaccines or politics on which FB has placed
an informative 'fact-check' notice -- They did that to one link I
Shared. That felt insulting, even though the Check nit-picked
only two facts in the dozen 'facts' asserted in the piece.

A cousin of mine had privileges suspended for a short while;
I don't know if it was the choice and frequency of his curse
words or what he was cursing.
