Yes. If not exactly to "fear" and "gear," at least closer to those
than to "fare", "fair", and "glare."

I would not want to go hiking in the wilds with you. If there's a
bear behind me, and you warn me, I don't want to delay my departure by
turning around expecting to see a bottle of beer.

Lucky thing for you I don't hike in the wilds. Even walking on city
streets is hard on me with my spinal stenosis.

'Wear' is actually another of those words whose pronunciation becomes
uncertain if it's printed in capitals. The Wear is a river in the
north-east of England (it flows through Durham and Sunderland) and its
name rhymes with 'beer'.
