Oh, space is so BIG, no worries mate.

Yea, sure.

A zillion flying bits IS a serious problem.

An that was only a Russian TEST.

The bits are spreading out now. I wonder what
they'll hit over the next year or so. First
gigabuck sat hit, or astronaut, and it's BIG TROUBLE.

Oh, and in the western world, if you can't get
INSURANCE you can't launch. It'll only take one
or two incidents and Space Insurance will be
CANCELLED due to risk calculations. Even Lloyds
will say "Fuck Off".

Everybody is hyper-dependent on satellites these
days - SO much cheaper and easier than the tech
of 20-30 years ago. You remember, hard lines,
microwave relay towers ... all that has
stalled or deteriorated because sats are just SO
much more convenient.

Until they're gone.

Hmmmmmmmm ... while astronomers despise Musk's
StarLink constellation, could it be that it's
being secretly funded by military sources ?
It's an alternative to gigabuck sats - hundreds
of cheap sats in relatively low orbit instead.
Hard to take out all those in one swipe. Bet
some of them have down-looking cams too ...
