John Charles Dodson,born July 17th 1924 and since July 29th 1933
the 3rd Baron Monk Bretton,died May 26th 2022...the longest tenure
for which anyone has ever held any British peerage.(He was the
last surviving peer from the reign of George V,there are still a few
from the reign of George VI (whose 1937 coronation Lord Monk
Bretton apparently attended).

Since being deprived of his seat in the House of Lords,
Lord Monk Bretton had mainly lived in Switzerland.

The only two older hereditary peers are Lord Saye and Sele
and the Earl of Elgin & Kincardine.

Viscount Gormanston is now the longest tenured peer
(acceded 1940)
followed by
the Earl of Suffolk & Berkshire
Baron Sudeley
the Duke of Kent
the Earl of Chichester
Baron Davies
Baron O'Neill
Viscount Ullswater
Baron Chetwode
Baron Gisborough
Viscount Gough
