Not incorrect, but the sentence could use some improvement.

"The collaboration of the electronic structure calculation and the
computer algebra is not [a] novel one: it is regarded, rather, as the
modernization of the union of [] quantum dynamics and [] group theory,
the success of which was brilliantly displayed in the [first] half of
the [Twentieth C]entury."

Those changes were made on formal grounds; I invite someone who knows
what the sentence means to correct them.

Peter's point is presumably that it should be "a novel one."

Three other points:

"Collaboration is a strange word to use there. "Collaboration normally
refers to people,.

What follows the semi-colon needs to be a complete sentence. It's not.
The verb is missing. Better would be "rather it is regarded...

Such long sentences should almost always be avoided. It's much better
to split it into several sentences.

Also, "the union of quantum dynamics and group theory" should have only
one "the".

Possibly a couple of "the"s should also be removed from the first
clause, but I'm not sure about that because I don't know what is meant
by "collaboration" in this context.

I thought at first that "correlation" was meant, but maybe not.
