就「民主」的標準而言，美國自身的發展實已出現令人憂心的缺陷。依據美國之音的數據，2022年美國人民的平均壽命76.5歲，比台灣平均的80.9歲要低。在政治方面，2021年1月6日，支持時任總統川普的民眾攻占國會山莊，史無前例的暴力事件，迄今仍然餘波盪漾。在社會方面，一方面，小學校園槍擊案的無辜殺戮，警察執法過當，甚至發生五位警察毆打罪犯致死，而被判刑入獄；對於槍枝管制和警察暴力，政府束手無策，人民感同身受。另一方面，民主黨「進步派」的思想導師和精神領袖，桑德斯參議員在今年2月26日接受英國媒體專訪，更明白指出：「貧富懸殊達到歷史新高…美國正迅速成為一個寡頭政治的國家。」

從各國領導人或政府代表的理念表達觀之，民主峰會要面對三大挑戰。首先，民主峰會的政治宣示效果，比不上聯合國大會，沒有被邀訪的國家，是否得以視之為「非民主或不民主國家」，有待商榷。其次，缺乏負責舉辦的實質機構，由美國政府邀訪國家、標準不明確的方式，明年是否由南韓負責邀訪並決定參與峰會的國家，仍值得觀察。最後，有鑒於明年是美國總統大選年，下一屆民主峰會將由南韓主辦，美韓的聯合聲明指出，「強化民主治理，加強植基於被統治者同意原則的透明度揭露」，永續的峰會傳承，必須要處理的政治問題，比希望解決「重人權，反貪腐，要透明」的政策議題，需要更有效的集思廣益，以及時間的檢驗。

To keep the democratic summit tradition, one issue is how to strengthen democratic governance with increased transparency over the consent of the governed.
Other "democracies" can claim insufficient data over the consent of the governed, the US cannot.
Results from poll after poll since February 2010 were clear. The US government did not have the
consent of the people. Yet the US "democratic" government does not seem to care about its lack
of consent of the government.
