It was just an occasion for the American politicians to criticise and condemn China.

The issue of TikTok is obvious. Like Huawei, ByteDance, Tik Tok's parent company, is another Chinese company which is a world beater. Therefore it has to be cut down to size, better still, obliterated. This is American way of competition. It's not about how to be better than the competition. It's about how to thwart the competition, or better still, kill it. The Americans just cannot compete anymore.

Congressional hearing, like other institutions, could be used to increase transparency.
But not in the US nowadays. It is mostly used as a gaming tool deployed by one party
to attack the other party and unfavorable policies in domestic politics.

And, in this case, a bullying tool.

American political leaders may not be able to delivery real benefit to the people. However,
as long as China is considered an enemy, criticising /condemning China is considered a
good substitute. Typical China's loss = US gain zero-sum mentally.
