A dry riser is a normally empty pipe that can be externally connected
by firefighters to a pressurised water source. It is a vertical pipe
intended to distribute water to multiple levels of a building or
structure as a component of the fire suppression systems.

Most buildings have a "wet riser" or "wet standpipe" system where the
pipes are kept full of water for manual or automatic fire fighting
operations. Dry risers are used when the water pressure of a building
is insufficient for fire suppression and in unheated buildings where
pipes could freeze. In the UK, dry risers must allow fire engine
access within 18 m of the dry riser inlet box.[1] Dry risers in
occupied buildings must be within a fire-resistant shaft, usually one
of a building's fire escape staircase enclosures. The riser is also
where the gauges, valves, and alarm devices are located.

Depending on regional nomenclature, the term "dry riser" may refer to
a standpipe, intended to provide water to fire hose connections, or a
vertical main pipe in an automatic dry pipe fire sprinkler system. A
dry standpipe has an external fire department connection at ground
level, such as a Storz coupling, through which water can be pumped
from the fire engine pump to the fire hose attachments on each floor.
A dry pipe fire sprinkler system is a network of pipes connected to
fixed sprinklers inside a building, which is full of air until one of
the sprinklers is triggered.

Even if he does, how likely is it that he will find the troll's answer helpful?

He's pretty much bound to be, isn't he? After all, we all are (except
me, of course, for widely varying values of "me").

The "xenophobic" lie started after I referred to Malayalam in a thread
in which Dingbat was active. What is curious, though, is that the nasty
little man referred to Malayalam a few days later in exactly the same
way. As for the "renegade" lie, it apparently refers to my living in a
country different from the country of my birth. If that is a definition
of "renegade" then we have lots of renegades here -- Occam, Paul (the
one in Spain), Skitt (R.I.P.) and Mark spring to mind, but I think that
there are others.

I was born in Victoria, and am now living in New South Wales. No doubt
another renegade has compensated for me, but I don't know who it is.

Several of my great-grandparents moved halfway around the world. That
has to count as a more serious defection.

But I guess moving to a French-speaking country is a more serious matter
in the eyes of a xenophobe.

Because he's gone over to the cheese-eating surrender monkeys; to the
purveyors of freedom fries. For certain people, insulting the French is
not xenophobia, it's just telling it like it is.

The XR must have been referring to Ruud, not the bowser,
becaise Ruud was the only one who offered an explanation.
And he's already been pounding on Ruud.

Everyone, of course, is a foreigner to almost everyone else.

Utterly wrong. (Well, the timing may be accurate, but not the referent.)

No, he doesn't know the meaning of "renegade." What he did was
renounce his citizenship (or "subject"hood). He wasn't a renegade
for all those years he listed himself as "British, living in France" or
something like that.

And he got upset when I compared him to Anthony Burgess living in
Monaco to avoid the confiscatory taxes of earlier UK administrations.

I didn't. I quoted Wikipedia, verbatim. And nobody’s noticed.

Probably because you included neither a link nor a credit.

Nonetheless, how is that not offering an explanation?
