Steven Bellovin, co-inventor of Usenet is currently blogging about the early history and design decision of Usenet.
In part V "Implementation and User Experience", we hear about the implementation of "the very first version of Netnews software as a Bourne Shell script. It was about 150 lines long, but implemented such features as multiple newsgroups and cross-posting."
